Course Plans

Please visit plans.ucsd.edu for the most relevant and updated academic plans for 2-year and 4-year students for both our B.S. in Astronomy and Astrophysics (AT25) and B.S. in Astrophysical Sciences (AT27). Please see below for steps on how to create your own plan, and how to schedule an appointment with one of our advisors to review it with you.

How to Create a 2- or 4-Year Plan

Please follow the steps below on how to create your plan:

  1. To get started making your own long-term academic plan, you can use the online Degree Planner or download the university quarter by quarter planning sheet
    • Please refer to the information on plans.ucsd.edu first to get an idea of where to place your classes by quarter, and the academic catalog for the degree's requirements.
    • You can find the offerings of our courses on our website to plan for the current and/or next academic year.

Some important things to note when making your plan: AT25 students who take the PHYS 2 series must also take ASTR 18 for the major requirements. It should be taken after completing the PHYS series or concurrently with PHYS 2D. Please note that as of FA26, ASTR 18 is only offered in the Fall quarter.

For advising appointments to discuss QXQ planning, we ask students to first send us a draft of their academic plan, so we have time to review it and make any corrections/comments prior to scheduling a meeting. It also allows us to make the most efficient use of our meeting time, and can answer any potential questions that may come up during it.

Please email your drafted academic plan to astro-advising@ucsd.edu or via the VAC using a link to Google Sheets (your preference).

After meeting with us, please plan to meet with your college to review your plan to ensure your other university requirements are met, as departments can only advise on major requirements.
