Undergraduate Program
The UC San Diego Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics is pleased to offer a new undergraduate program for students interested in specializing in astronomical sciences. The program consists of two majors, a Bachelors of Arts (BA) and a Bachelors of Science (BS), and a minor in Astronomy and Astrophysics. Between the two majors the BA degree will provide greater breadth and include upper division coursework in other departments on campus. This degree is appropriate for students who are interested in a STEM degree and want preparation to work in fields such as education, policy, science communication, or industry. The BS degree provides greater depth and involves multiple upper division astrophysics courses that will prepare students well for graduate school in astronomy and astrophysics. Both the BA and BS include an optional honors thesis. Students will be able to choose from a range of upper division topical courses in exciting topics such as stars, galaxies, exoplanets, and cosmology, as well as advanced laboratory, computing, and data science classes.
A full description of the Astronomy & Astrophysics major programs and course offerings can be found in the UCSD General Catalog.
